Sarkozy: What hope for African immigrants?
The right-wing conservative and anti-immigration Nicolas Sarkozy has been elected president of France with a mandate to steer a new course for a social-economically sluggish nation struggling to incorporate immigrants and their children. Sarkozy defeated his only opponent and arch-rival Segolene Royal of the Socialist Party in a run-off election by 53.06 percent to 46.94 percent of the total vote cast with 84 percent turnout, according to final results released. It is the highest recorded vote in the history of elections In France.
